What Our Students Say
FAQ about Truck Driver Licence Courses
What courses do you offer for truck driving licences?
We offer nationally recognised courses for Heavy Rigid (HR), Heavy Combination (HC), and Multi-Combination (MC) licences. These courses include one-on-one practical training, theory, and assessments performed on-site by our Department of Transport approved assessors.
How long are the courses, and what do they involve?
Our courses vary in length, offering 2-day, 3-day, and 4-day options. The duration depends on your previous experience and your pace of learning. Each course includes practical driving hours and theoretical learning, tailored to prepare you for the Department of Transport assessment.
What are the eligibility requirements for each type of truck licence?
Heavy Rigid (HR): You must hold a non-provisional licence (be off your P Plates).
Heavy Combination (HC): You must either hold an MR licence for at least two years or a HR licence for at least one year.
Multi-Combination (MC): You must hold a HR licence for at least one year.
What types of transmission training do you offer?
We offer training in three types of transmissions:
Automatic: Suitable for beginners and those looking to quickly acquire a licence.
Synchromesh (Synchro): Comparable to a car’s manual gearbox, ideal for those with some mechanical background.
Road Ranger (Crash Box): Requires manual driving skills and is best for those aiming for long-term careers in trucking.
What happens if I am not ready for the assessment after completing the course?
If you are not ready for your assessment at the end of your course, we will not set you up to fail. The test will be postponed, and we will book you in for additional training and a new assessment slot, usually available within a week.
Can I choose the vehicle class and transmission type for my training?
Yes, you can choose the vehicle class based on your current licence and eligibility. You can also select the type of transmission that suits your needs and the skills you wish to acquire.
Are there any specific jobs I can qualify for with each type of licence?
HR Licence: Qualifies you for local deliveries and driving buses (with additional PTD authorisation).
HC Licence: Enables you to drive semi-trailers and trucks with a single pivot point trailer, useful for food and fuel delivery.
MC Licence: Allows you to operate the largest trucks on the road, ideal for long-distance driving and heavy-duty transportation jobs.
What if I need more lessons?
It is not unusual for some students to require additional lessons. We understand that not everyone can absorb a lifetime’s worth of driving skills in just a few days. We offer flexibility in scheduling more sessions to ensure you are fully prepared for the road.
